RO (reverse osmosis) membranes

RO membranes. Reverse Osmosis, i.e. reverse osmosis) is a key component of water filtration systems, used to purify water of various contaminants, including salts, heavy metals, chemicals, and microorganisms. Reverse osmosis is a process in which water is forced through a semi-permeable membrane under pressure, allowing clean water to be separated from contaminants.

Key information about RO membranes:

  1. Action RO membranes:
    • In the reverse osmosis process, water is passed through a membrane under high pressure.
    • The membrane has very small pores (typically around 0.0001 microns) that allow only pure water to pass through, trapping most contaminants.
  2. Diaphragm construction RO:
    • RO membranes are usually made of Thin Film Composite (TFC) and have a spiral or capillary structure.
    • The thin-film composite has a high separation efficiency, but requires high water pressure.
  3. Applications RO membranes:
    • Home filters: RO membranes are commonly used in domestic drinking water treatment systems.
    • Industry: In industry, RO membranes are used, among others, for seawater desalination, water purification in production processes, in the pharmaceutical industry, for the production of water for window / glazing cleaning
    • Agriculture: RO membranes are used in some cases to produce irrigation water, especially in regions with limited freshwater resources.
  4. Effectiveness and limitations RO membranes:
    • Performance: RO membranes can remove up to 99% of contaminants, including bacteria, viruses, heavy metals and salts.
    • Waste water: The RO (reverse osmosis) process also generates waste water (known as permeate), which contains concentrated contaminants and is discharged as effluent.
    • Maintenance: RO membranes require regular maintenance, including flushing and possible replacement, to maintain high efficiency.
  5. Membrane life RO:
    • The life of the RO membrane depends on the quality of the incoming water, pressure, temperature and regularity of maintenance.

RO membranes are an extremely effective tool for obtaining pure water in a wide variety of applications, but they require proper maintenance to ensure long-lasting and effective performance.

It is important that RO membranes are replaced regularly when producing pure water.
